Emotional Based School Avoidance
Emotionally Based School Avoidance
If your child is feeling anxious about school, or not able to go, it can be exhausting for both of you. Mornings in particular can become stressful for the whole family, as you try to juggle your child’s feelings alongside the need to get them to school and get on with your other responsibilities such as work.
Even if you manage to get your child to the school gate, you might know how difficult they’re going to find the day – or know that you’ll be facing the same problem tomorrow morning.

At ProActive Mind I offer a tailored 8–12-week program working with school and family, helping ensure your child feels able and safe to manage a school day.

Self Harm
Self-harm is when you’re child hurts themselves on purpose as a way of dealing with painful or overwhelming feelings.
It can take lots of different forms. Sometimes it’s clear that something is a form of self-harm. But other times, they might find themselves doing harmful things and not think of it as ‘self-harm’.
Some young people find that self-harm brings a sense of relief in the moment. Others might have feelings of guilt, shame or fear afterwards. Either way, it won’t fix their problems. And the next time difficult feelings start to build up, they might feel like they have to self-harm again. This can create a vicious cycle that’s hard to break out of. If this pattern continues, you might start to feel like self-harm is your only way of coping with these feelings, but it isn’t.
With help from Proactive Mind , lets teach our young adult’s other practical ways of coping when everything feels too much. Suggested sessions 8-12 weeks.

Suicidal Ideation
Anyone can feel suicidal for any reason. What causes one young person to have suicidal feelings might not be the same for someone else. Suicidal thoughts can build up slowly, or they can come out of nowhere. There’s not always a clear reason and it can happen even when life feels okay.
Suicidal thoughts can be linked to feeling depressed or even highly anxious. It can appear when you’re your adult is stressed, feeling pressure or have gone through trauma. We know that young people who take their own lives are more likely to have self-harmed in the past, but self-harm is not necessarily a sign of feeling suicidal.
Suicidal feelings can get in the way of everything else – it might feel impossible to believe that your young person can feel better. But they can, no matter how rough things feel right now.
Whatever’s making a young person feel this way ProActive Mind is here to help.
3
Social Anxiety
Social anxiety disorder is a common type of anxiety disorder. A young person with social anxiety disorder feels symptoms of anxiety or fear in situations where they may be scrutinised, evaluated, or judged by others. Doing everyday things, such as eating or drinking in front of others or using a school toilet, may also cause anxiety or fear due to concerns about being judged, or rejected.
This fear often feels uncontrollable and can interfere with daily life. People with social anxiety disorder may worry about engaging in social situations for weeks before they happen. Sometimes young adults avoid places or events that cause distress or generate feelings of embarrassment.
Social anxiety disorder usually starts during childhood or adolescence and may resemble extreme shyness or avoidance of public situations or social interactions.
With the right tools, support and experiences this can be managed and improved greatly.
Suggestion of time 10-14 weeks with ProActive Mind.
